New Plays Initiative

Established in 2008, Pioneer Theatre Company's New Plays Initiative commissions, develops and produces new work by some of the most talented theatre artists currently working in America. We are interested in work from playwrights at all stages in their careers, from those who are just beginning to make their way in the field to those who are already firmly established. We currently consider plays in every genre except the musical.

About the New Plays Initiative

The New Plays Initiative is run by Associate Artistic Director/Literary Manager Elizabeth Williamson. Prior to joining PTC in 2008, Williamson worked at ACT, About Face Theatre, Steppenwolf, Aurora Theatre, the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Berkeley Rep’s School, Cal Shakes, Court Theatre, HERE, the La Jolla Playhouse, the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, Lorin Maazel’s Castleton Festival, the Magic Theatre, Theatre de la Jeune Lune, and the Williamstown Theatre Festival. She holds a BA in Theatre Directing and Comparative Literature from Bennington College, a Master’s in European Literature from Oxford University, and she trained at the École Jacques Lecoq. Williamson received a 2007 NEA Fellowship in Literary Translation, is co-regional VP for LMDA, and is a member of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab.

Submissions 

Pioneer Theatre Company accepts original full-length unproduced plays. PTC accepts submissions only from agents, or from playwrights and theatre artists with whom we have an existing professional relationship. Due to the high volume of submissions, we are unable to accept scripts not submitted by an agent and such submissions will either be recycled or (if an SASE is enclosed) returned unread. We are not currently considering new musicals. Submitted scripts should be addressed to:
