Pioneer Theatre Company’s 2017-2018 season….

With three major musicals, a Tony Award-winning drama and a world premiere, you won’t want to miss a thing

Salt Lake City — Pioneer Theatre Company’s 2017-2018 season will open with the Utah premiere of the Tony Award-winning The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the bestselling novel by Mark Haddon. The season will include the hit musicals Newsies and Mamma Mia!, as well as the new musical Bright Star, written by Grammy Award-winning artists Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. Also in the season are A Comedy of Tenors, the sequel to the hit comedy Lend Me a Tenor by Ken Ludwig; the world premiere of “i” by Jeff Talbott, which was read as part of PTC’s 2016-2017 Play-by-Play reading series; and one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, Twelfth Night.

“What most excited me about this season is the mix of tried-and-true audience favorites, like Newsies and Mamma Mia!, combined with the regional or world premieres of three shows,” said Artistic Director Karen Azenberg. “The Steve Martin-Edie Brickell musical Bright Star is a beautiful new show, and Salt Lake and Los Angeles’ Center Theatre Group audiences will be the first to see it prior to a National Tour. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was the hottest ticket on Broadway for two years, and we’re one of the first theatres in the country to produce it.

“I loved Jeff Talbott’s “i” when I first read it, and the audience reaction to our Play-by-Play reading only confirmed for me that it should be in our season,” Azenberg continued. “I know our audience loved Lend Me a Tenor twenty years ago, and I think Ken Ludwig’s sequel, A Comedy of Tenors, is every bit as funny as the original. And, after a three year hiatus, I’m glad to be getting back to Shakespeare with one of his most enjoyable comedies.”

The theatre will continue its music concert offering with a three-performance run of a Concert Musical, as well as its popular Play-by-Play new play reading series. Titles and dates for both will be announced at a later date.

Ticket prices will change slightly for the 2017-18 season. Single ticket prices for musicals will be $42-64, and prices for non-musicals range from $25-44.

Our season ticket options, which include discounts of up to will continue to include a full Seven-Play, Pick-5, Upper Balcony, and Flex and Rush Pass Options.

Packages range in price from $105 to $325 and include the best seats, discounts, the convenience of exchange privileges, and other benefits.

PTC patrons routinely get to watch performers who star in and appear frequently in Broadway shows. PTC alumni who are on or are about to be on the Broadway stage include Kevin Ligon, from this season’s Oliver!, in the Bette Midler revival of Hello Dolly!; Joe Medeiros and William Parry in the new musical Groundhog Day; Anthony Ramos and Nik Walker in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit, Hamilton; and Lance Roberts and Nancy Anderson in the Sunset Boulevard revival with Glenn Close, which includes PTC alumni Scenic Designer James Noone and Costume Designer Tracy Christensen as members of its artistic team.

Current season ticket holders will receive their renewal notices in the next few weeks, and will have the opportunity to reserve their current seats as long as they do so by Friday, June 30, 2017. New subscriber orders will be filled in the order in which they are received.
