CHARLES MOREY (Director)
has been the artistic director of the Pioneer Theatre Company since
1984, during which time he has directed more than seventy productions
for PTC. Recent projects include The Vertical Hour, Les
Misérables, Pride and Prejudice, Chicago, Metamorphoses, Humble
Boy and Julius Caesar. He served as artistic director of New
Hampshire’s Peterborough Players from 1977 through 1988, where he
directed many world premieres. New York directing credits include
productions for the Ark Theatre Company and the Ensemble Studio
Theatre. Regionally he has directed for the Alabama Shakespeare
Festival, Asolo Theatre Company, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Meadow
Brook Theatre, American Stage Festival, PCPA Theaterfest and the Utah
Shakespearean Festival. He is the author of stage adaptations of The
Count of Monte Cristo, A Tale of Two Cities, The Hunchback of Notre
Dame, Dracula, and The Three Musketeers, as well as The Ladies Man, a
translation/adaptation from Georges Feydeau and his original plays,
Laughing Stock, and Dumas’ Camille. All received their premieres
at PTC and most have subsequently moved on to successful productions in
professional theatres across the country including the Milwaukee
Repertory Theatre, Asolo Theatre Company, Repertory Theatre of St.
Louis, Meadow Brook Theatre, PCPA Theaterfest, Connecticut Rep.,
Peterborough Players, Elm Shakespeare Festival, Artists’ Ensemble
and many others. The Count of Monte Cristo is currently playing at the
Alabama Shakespeare Festival and The Ladies Man will be seen next
season at Shakespeare and Company, the Indiana Repertory Theatre and
Geva Theatre Center. Laughing Stock is enjoying dozens of productions
across the country this season. He has served as both a panelist and
on-site reporter for the National Endowment for the Arts and on the
Board of Trustees of the National Theatre Conference. He began his
career as an actor working with many New York and regional theatres
after graduating from Dartmouth College and receiving a Master of Fine
Arts from Columbia University. He is a fellow of the MacDowell Colony.

PATTI D’BECK (Choreographer) is
very happy to return to PTC for her eleventh production, most recently
choreographing Paint Your Wagon and Chicago for PTC. Her Broadway
credits include Annie Get Your Gun, starring Bernadette Peters, and
later Reba McEntire, Bells Are Ringing, Grease! and The Will Rogers
Follies, working with people such as Jeff Calhoun, Graciela Daniele,
Tommy Tune and Michael Bennett. She has appeared on Broadway in 13
shows including A Chorus Line, Evita and My One and Only. She is
currently a faculty member in the Theatre Department at Virginia
Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, and has just finished
creating a new piece for Richmond Ballet.

LAWRENCE GOLDBERG (Musical
Director) Pioneer Theatre debut. Broadway credits include The Drowsy
Chaperone, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Phantom of the Opera, Carousel
(as Conductor); Young Frankenstein, Guys and Dolls, Gypsy (as
keyboardist). National Tours include Musical Direction for The
Producers, Les Misérables, Sunset Boulevard, and Cats. Numerous
regional theatre credits as well. Composer/lyricist for Big Bad Wolf
and the Endangered Forest (Portland Opera). Composer/Music Director
for Let’s Read a Story (KDKA-TV series). Orchestral arrangements for
the Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops, Pittsburgh Symphony. Vocal
arrangements for Tanglewood Festival Chorus, CANTUS. Author of Broadway
Musical Anagrami, an irreverent puzzle book of musical theatre
anagrams. Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Native of New
York City. Beautiful supportive wife. Dog.

ERIC K. JOHNSTON (Assistant
Musical Director) Joining Pioneer Theatre Company for the first time
with The Producers, Eric recently musically directed Hello, Dolly! with
Arkansas Repertory Theatre and assisted on Les Misérables at North
Shore Music Theatre. Off-Broadway productions include Shanghai Lil's,
Evil Dead the Musical and How to Save the World and Find True Love in
90 Minutes. Eric has also composed two short musicals: The Guest and
mOnster with Raw Impressions as well as original music for a variety of
plays such as Oedipus Rex, The Yorkshire Tragedy and the premiere of
SubUrban Legend. After The Producers, Eric will return to Sacramento
for his fifth summer with Music Circus, where he has played for 17
productions, including Les Misérables, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
and Smokey Joe's Cafe. |

GEORGE MAXWELL
(Scenic Designer) is the resident scenic designer for PTC. He recently
designed this season’s The Foreigner and the World Premiere of Paint
Your Wagon. Last season George designed the sets for Chicago, You Can’t
Take It With You and Les Misérables. He also designed Death of a
Salesman and The Count of Monte Cristo for the Alabama Shakespeare
Festival. Favorite PTC designs include Metamorphoses, Enchanted April,
The Importance of Being Earnest, West Side Story, Proof, Peter Pan,
Noises Off, Man of La Mancha and Ain’t Misbehavin’. He has designed the
sets for Utah Opera Company’s The Coronation of Poppea and The Ballad
of Baby Doe. He has also designed for the Utah Shakespearean Festival.

K.L. ALBERTS
(Costume Designer) Previous designs at PTC include: the world premieres
of Dumas’ Camille and Laughing Stock; Les Misérables, Metamorphoses,
West Side Story, Ragtime, Proof, Phantom, Communicating Doors, A Raisin
in the Sun, Death of a Salesman, The Dining Room, Room Service, Inherit
the Wind, Little Shop of Horrors, Private Lives, Uncle Vanya, Scapino!,
Born Yesterday, Rough Crossing and The Cripple of Inishmaan. Designs
for the University of Utah’s Babcock Theatre include: On the Verge,
Summer and Smoke, The Cherry Orchard, School for Scandal, I Do! I Do!,
The Seagull, Table Manners and Edward II. For the Salt Lake Acting
Company, K.L. has designed Rabbit Hole, Sexsting, Bad Dates, Kimberly
Akimbo, Big Love, Gross Indecency, The Beauty Queen of Leenane,
Two-Headed and The Beard of Avon. K.L. has also designed Hay Fever, Ah,
Wilderness! and The Matchmaker for the Utah Shakespearean Festival. |

KARL HAAS (Lighting
Designer) returns to Salt Lake City for his 20th production with PTC.
Previous productions include Les Misérables, West Side Story, One Flew
Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, South
Pacific, Death of a Salesman, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Our
Town. Regional theatre designs include work at Actors Theatre of
Louisville, The Mark Taper Forum, the Utah Shakespearean Festival, the
Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Portland Stage Company, George Street
Playhouse, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Philadelphia Festival Theatre,
the Santa Fe Opera, and two seasons at Peterborough Players in New
Hampshire. New York credits include Playwrights Horizons, Ensemble
Studio Theatre, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Julliard. Mr. Haas has
been Lighting Supervisor/Designer for the Bolshoi Ballet/Opera, the
Kirov Ballet, the Spanish National Ballet, and the Joffrey Ballet. For
11 years, Mr. Haas served as Principal Designer with Gallegos Lighting
Design creating lighting for architectural installations in the United
States, Asia, and Europe. Currently based in Hollywood, Karl is the
Architectural Western Regional Manager for Electronic Theatre Controls
(ETC).

JOE PAYNE (Sound
Designer) is in his eighth season as Resident Sound Designer for
Pioneer Theatre Company and teaching sound design for the Department of
Theatre at the U of U. He has designed sound and/or composed music for
more than 100 productions in theatres throughout the country, including
The Utah Shakespearean Festival (nine years), Alabama Shakespeare
Festival, Salt Lake Shakespeare (two years), The Repertory Theatre of
St. Louis, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, The Virginia Stage Company
(four years), The Egyptian Theatre Company, Milwaukee Repertory
Theatre, Utah Opera, The Fulton Opera House, and Utah Musical Theatre.
Joe is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829, and is also the
Webmaster and Web Designer for PTC and the Theatre Department. |

AMANDA FRENCH (Hair
and Make-up Designer) has been a Makeup and Hair Designer for over 16
years. She has worked for The Utah Shakespearean Festival, The Utah
Opera, The Egyptian Theatre and the University of Texas at Austin. She
is a contributing writer in the ninth edition of Stage Makeup by
Richard Corson and James Glavan and is a featured artist in The Costume
Technician’s Handbook by Rosemary Ingham and Liz Covey. She attended
the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati where
she studied with Hair and Makeup designer Lenna Kaleva. She is a member
of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT). |
