Season Announcement 2021

Greetings, from behind the facemask!

We want to thank you – our loyal subscribers – for your patience and your support during this very unusual and challenging time.
As a professional theatre that draws artists from all over the country, bringing hundreds of people together at one time, and as an entity that’s part of the University of Utah, we’ve have had a complicated path towards re-opening. Your safety, and the safety of our staff, cast and crew is of utmost importance to us. For these reasons and concerns about a possible second wave of infections in the fall, we’ll be offering a modified three-show season that kicks off in February 2021.
We know we disappointed many of our patrons when we postponed the remaining two productions at the end of this season. We are pleased to announce that we were able to re-contract both these shows for our upcoming season. Something Rotten! has been rescheduled to run February 19 to March 6, 2021. What better way to re-introduce theatre to the world than with a comedy that pokes fun at the greatest playwright of all time?
Following that, from March 26 to April 10, 2021, celebrating a new generation of theatre and comedy, we will present Ellen Simon’s world premier of the play Ass.
Adding to the productions we’d postponed, and keeping things on the lighter side, we will close the season with the musical comedy spun off of the movie with the same name, Legally Blonde which will run from May 7 to May 22, 2021.

What about existing season ticket subscribers?

As you know, we have a variety of season ticket packages. Each of our season ticket subscribers are in one of many different scenarios that are too difficult to outline here: patrons who had purchased extra tickets, those who had donated back tickets when we postponed, people who had passes they didn’t use fully (or used a little) and Pick 5 subscribers who were not affected by the postponement at all. Patrons who had tickets to Ass were told they could have a voucher for next season. But because we are only doing one play next season, we are extending that voucher to also apply to one of two plays in the following season.
Because of the complexity unique to each subscriber, each subscriber will receive a renewal notice in the next few weeks, with a discount specific to that patron’s ticketing scenario, for patrons who renew before July 15th.
Because we will be adhering to the social distancing guidelines in place at that time, patrons’ regular seats may be affected, although we will make every effort to preserve your choices — and promise to maintain them in 2021-2022.
As an organization that prides itself on responsibility, with more than 50% of our revenue coming from ticket sales, we are sure you understand the great economic hit that we have experienced, and will continue to experience. While the renewal notices will reflect all discounts and vouchers that apply to a patron’s individuals situation, we would also welcome the decision to pay for a full subscription renewal as a donation to the theatre and we’d be pleased to offer you a tax receipt for that.
We are hampered by not being in our building or having regular access to our phones, so we encourage you to take advantage of email as much as possible. Our staff is working, remotely, during our regular business hours.
Our box office at 801-581-6961 will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays only, but boxoffice@pioneertheatre.org is monitored regularly every business day. There is no walk-in service at this time.
